🟦 The basics
What is a refurbished laptop?
A refurbished laptop is a pre-owned laptop that has been inspected, repaired where needed, cleaned, tested, and resold with a warranty. Most refurbished laptops come from corporate lease returns — large companies replace employee laptops every 3–4 years, and these returned units enter the refurbished market.
What's the difference between refurbished and used?
A used laptop is sold as-is with no inspection, no repair, and no warranty. A refurbished laptop has been inspected, fixed if needed, and comes with a warranty. A certified refurbished laptop has passed a defined multi-point inspection process — like Reboot's 16-point check.
What's the difference between refurbished and renewed?
"Renewed" is a label used by marketplaces like Amazon. It usually means basic inspection, but the process isn't standardised across sellers. "Certified refurbished" from a registered refurbisher has a defined inspection process backed by the refurbisher's brand.
Where do refurbished laptops come from?
Mostly from corporate lease returns — companies replace laptops on 3–4 year cycles. Other sources include warranty replacements, overstock, retailer returns, and IT asset disposition (ITAD) programs. At Reboot, we source primarily from large corporate lease-end returns and partner with businesses for their IT asset disposition.
Is a refurbished laptop the same as a second-hand laptop?
No. A second-hand laptop is sold as-is by a previous owner — no testing, no cleaning, no warranty. A certified refurbished laptop has passed a documented inspection process, been cleaned inside and out, had data wiped to military-grade standards, and comes with warranty-backed support.
If a device can't pass all 16 quality checkpoints, it doesn't leave our facility. No exceptions. That's the difference between a cosmetically-cleaned used laptop and a certified Reboot device.

🟦 Trust & verification
How do I know if a refurbished laptop is genuine?
Check that the seller is a registered business with GST and physical address, verify the laptop's service tag on the manufacturer's website, confirm genuine Windows activation, check battery health, and get warranty and return terms in writing. Here's our full 12-point verification checklist.
What should I look for in a refurbisher?
GST registration, ideally GPCB authorization, physical business address, published inspection process, written warranty (minimum 6 months), clear return policy (minimum 14 days), Microsoft Registered Refurbisher status, real customer reviews, and 5+ years in business. Reboot meets all of these criteria.
How do I check if a laptop has been properly data-wiped?
A properly wiped laptop boots to a fresh Windows setup screen. Check Windows settings for any leftover user accounts or corporate device management (MDM) enrolment. Check for BIOS passwords or supervisor locks. At Reboot, we perform a DoD-standard military-grade data wipe on every storage drive before any other work begins.
Can a refurbished laptop be stolen?
Yes, this is a risk with unverified sellers. Before purchase, ask for the service tag and verify it on the manufacturer's site (Dell, HP, Lenovo, Apple). Reputable refurbishers source only from legitimate channels — corporate lease returns, overstock, or ITAD programs. As a GPCB-authorized refurbisher, Reboot has documented sourcing from large corporate networks.
What certifications should a refurbisher have?
In India, look for GST registration, GPCB authorization for refurbishing and recycling (where applicable), and Microsoft Registered Refurbisher status for genuine Windows licensing. Reboot is a government-registered refurbisher since 2015 and installs Windows via the official Microsoft Approved OS process.

🟦 Pricing & value
How much do refurbished laptops cost in India?
Refurbished laptops in India range from ₹14,500 for basic business-grade models up to ₹60,000+ for premium refurbished MacBook Pros. The sweet spot is ₹20,000–₹30,000, which gets you a solid business-grade i5 with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD.
How much do you save buying refurbished?
Typical savings range from 40–60% compared to a new laptop of similar specs. A refurbished Dell Latitude with i5/8GB/256GB at ₹22,000 has comparable performance to a new laptop of similar specs costing ₹48,000–₹52,000.
Are refurbished laptops really cheaper or is it a trick?
Really cheaper — the savings are real. The reason is simple: corporate lease returns are standardised-grade business laptops sold at standardised refurbished prices, often 2–4 years after their original enterprise purchase. You get genuine enterprise hardware at a fraction of the original price.
What's the cheapest reliable refurbished laptop in India?
₹14,500–₹18,000 will get you a basic refurbished business laptop — typically an older i3 or i5 with 4–8GB RAM and SSD storage. Good for office work, browsing, and basic productivity. Look at Lenovo ThinkPad, Dell Latitude, or HP ProBook models in this range.
Is it worth paying more for a premium refurbished laptop?
Yes, if you need better specs. A ₹35,000 refurbished i7/16GB/512GB business laptop delivers far more performance than a ₹35,000 new consumer laptop (typically i3/8GB). Read why a refurbished i7 beats a new Celeron at the same price.

🟦 Specs & brands
Which brands are best to buy refurbished?
Business-grade lines: Dell Latitude, HP EliteBook, Lenovo ThinkPad. These are built for enterprise durability and significantly outlast consumer-grade laptops. For Apple, MacBook Air M1 and MacBook Pro are excellent refurbished buys. Avoid consumer-grade refurbished (HP Pavilion, Dell Inspiron, Acer Aspire) — the savings are smaller and build quality doesn't justify it.
What processor is enough for a refurbished laptop?
For office work, Office, Tally, browsing, and video calls — Intel i3 10th gen or better, or Intel i5 8th gen or better, is sufficient. For coding, content creation, or heavier multitasking — aim for i5 10th gen or i7 8th gen and above. Skip anything older than 8th gen Intel in 2026.
How much RAM do I need?
8GB is the minimum for 2026. 16GB is strongly recommended if you use multiple browser tabs, Office, and video calling simultaneously. For coding, 16GB is a must; 32GB is worth it if you run virtual machines or heavy development environments.
Should I get SSD or HDD on a refurbished laptop?
Always SSD. Full stop. A refurbished laptop with HDD feels 5x slower than one with SSD for identical specs. 256GB SSD is the minimum; 512GB is much better for long-term use. Almost all reputable refurbishers ship with SSD now.
Is the battery on a refurbished laptop good?
Reputable refurbishers test battery health and disclose it. At Reboot, battery health is part of our 16-point check, and units below our threshold get replacement batteries before sale. Expect 3–5 hours of real-world battery life on a typical refurbished business laptop.

🟦 Warranty & returns
Do refurbished laptops come with a warranty?
Yes — from reputable refurbishers. The industry standard is 6 months. Reboot offers a 6-month warranty on every unit, plus a 14-day money-back return window. Avoid any seller that doesn't offer a written warranty.
What does the warranty cover?
Standard refurbished warranty covers hardware failures not caused by user damage — screen issues, keyboard failure, motherboard issues, port failures, battery failure below spec, storage drive failures. It does not cover physical damage, liquid damage, software issues caused by user changes, or normal wear.
Can I return a refurbished laptop if I don't like it?
Yes, if the refurbisher offers a no-questions-asked return window. Reboot offers a 14-day money-back return on every unit. During this window, you can return for any reason and get a full refund. Always confirm the return policy in writing before purchase.
What happens if my refurbished laptop fails during warranty?
Reputable refurbishers repair or replace the unit under warranty at no cost. At Reboot, warranty claims are handled through our support team — contact us via the website, ship the unit (we can coordinate pickup in many areas), and we repair or replace it and ship it back to you.
How long does a refurbished laptop last?
A certified refurbished business laptop typically lasts 4–6 more years of daily use. Business-grade laptops (Latitude, EliteBook, ThinkPad) are built for 7–10 year service lifecycles in corporate environments, so even a 3-year-old unit has significant runway.
